Australian Formula 1 driver Jack Doohan has revealed a disturbing chapter from his 2025 season, sharing that he received graphic death threats and faced a frightening security situation around the Miami Grand Prix, just weeks before losing his race seat with Alpine. The 23-year-old opened up about the experience in the latest season of a popular F1 documentary series, describing the period as one of the most difficult moments of his career.
Doohan said the threats came through multiple emails warning him not to race in Miami. Some messages contained violent language and promised physical harm if he remained in the car for the event. The pressure built as speculation over his future with Alpine intensified, turning what should have been a normal race weekend into a tense and emotionally heavy experience.
The situation escalated beyond online abuse when Doohan encountered three armed individuals during the Miami weekend. He immediately contacted his security team and police escort to handle the situation. Authorities treated the matter seriously, and the young driver was kept under close protection throughout the event, highlighting the level of risk involved.
The Miami Grand Prix eventually became a turning point in his Formula 1 journey. It was the sixth race of the 2025 season and his final appearance for Alpine. After making his debut at the end of 2024, Doohan was replaced by Franco Colapinto as the team evaluated its long-term driver options. Both drivers finished the season without scoring points, and Alpine ended the year at the bottom of the constructors’ standings.
Doohan had previously spoken about ongoing online abuse directed at him and his family, and the hostility appeared to grow as debates around Alpine’s driver lineup became more intense. The latest revelations show how the situation moved beyond social media criticism into real-world threats that required law-enforcement involvement.

Despite the setback and the difficult circumstances, Doohan has secured a path back into the Formula 1 paddock. He will serve as an official reserve driver for Haas in 2026, working alongside the team’s development group and remaining ready for any race opportunities. The former Formula 2 race winner, and son of MotoGP legend Mick Doohan, remains focused on earning another full-time seat and rebuilding his career after one of the toughest periods he has faced in motorsport.
